Moncofa is a municipality located on the coast and it is perfect for sea lovers. Throughout the year, but especially during summer months, many events and festivities take place there and enliven its streets and people.
"M.A.C. Moncofa Al Carrer" is a festival that takes place the second fortnight in August and it brings together different events such as musical shows, theater performances and activities for kids.
There are also special events on summer, a medieval fair, a food fair, the celebration of equality, and the Patron Saint's Festivities of Santa María Magdalena.
Peñíscola, located in the Valencian Community, is one of the most beautiful cities in the zone. In fact, in 2013 it was included on the list “The most Beautiful Towns in Spain”, an association that is in charge of preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage.
The city is located on a peninsula. The historical center is surrounded by the walls that were built during the medieval times and the Renaissance. The streets that define it are not wide, but they have the charm provided by their small and white houses. On the other hand, its beaches are very appreciated by swimmers, although there also virgin coast zones.
The Patron Saint's Day Festivities of Peñíscola are celebrated in September, and they are very important in the city. During the festivity days, the town celebrates different events, such as traditional dances, parades and fireworks, among others.
Unlike other towns in the same region, La Vall d’Uixó is located halfway between the inland and the coast, very near the Natural Park of the Sierra de Espadán and, at the same time, at only 10 minutes from the beach.
One of the most advisable activities is a boat trip on the underground river to see the San José caves, a stunning natural nook.
The municipality is also known for its taurine festivities and its 2 Patron Saint's Day Festivities: Sant Vicent Ferrer and Sagrada Familia y Santísimo Cristo. Moreover, during the first week of August, the town celebrates “Les Penyes en Festes”.
Lastly, it is also important to highlight its gastronomical proposal, especially the “paella”, the “empedrao” and the “manjòvenes”.
Onda is an inland town that stands out for its natural landscapes and it is located at the foot of the Natural Park of Sierra de Espadán. It is an ideal place for people who love practising outdoor sports, because it has different hiking routes and it offers the opportunity to do activities such as excursions by bicycle, climbing, kayak, rappel, canyoning, etc.
In regard to its cultural offer, we find the Almudín Square, the Major Church or Asunción Church, the Jewish neighbourhood and the Muslim castle.
The most popular dish Onda is the “olla”, that it is prepared with potatoes and different vegetables that are cooked slowly. We also can find typical desserts, such as “mostachones” and sweet potatoes small cakes.
The centre of Burriana is considered as Heritage of Cultural Interest. Some of its most important buildings are the Basilica of El Salvador, the former convent of La Merced, the San José temple and other modernist buildings from the 20th century.
In terms of nature, we want to highlight the Municipal Natural Spot of Clot de la Mare de Déu, where many protected acuatic birds live in harmony. The fishing and sport port is also worth to visit.
Burriana is an attractive town, as it offers options for different types of people.
Castellón stands out for its beaches, that in total cover almost 5 km of the coast, and also for its city cultural patrimony. At the same time, it is an interesting spot for history lovers, as it has many religious buildings and interesting monuments, such as Santa María Magdalena Hermitage or the Episcopal Palace.
It is also advisable to visit Las Palmas Desert and the Nature Reserve of the Columbretes Islands. These natural spots are impressive and are full of vegetation and fauna.
The city celebrates the Festivities of Magdalena, an event of international tourist interest. In addition, many sport events take place there.
The Vilavella town is located near the Sierra de Espadán and the hot water natural springs, that provide water to the health resort and Fuente Calda (Hot Fountain). The health resort offers treatments to improve the physical state. They can treat, for example, some respiratory system conditions. This is possible thanks to its mineral-medicinal waters.
The Patron Saint's Day Festivities of Vilavella are celebrated in January. On the other hand, the municipality organizes the Mountain Walk that takes place at Sierra de Espadán. Other important events are the Festivities of Santos Piedra, San Roque and San Joaquín.
“Olla de la Plana”, “paella” and “oven rice” are the typical dishes of the place, with San Sebastián cakes as desserts.
Like Nules, Xilxes stands out for its beaches (2 beaches with certified quality) and the routes that can be traversed on its surroundings. The most important routes are:
-Blue coastal route.
-Trekking-cycle route El Castellàs.
-Route of the Orange.
On the other hand, it is also advisable to visit the Natural Park of La Serra de Espadá, located 15 km away. Regarding monuments and cultural alternatives, there is a Christian Necropolis, dating from the 13th and 18th centuries, the Asunción de María Temple (17th century) and a small statue of the God of commerce, Hermes.
